For a spa experience with a difference, a natural mud bath at L’eau Michel Mud Volcano gives visitors the opportunity to soak up to the neck in a cool smooth mud bath.
For a spa experience with a difference, a natural mud bath at L’eau Michel Mud Volcano in southern Trinidad should be your next destination. Unlike other mud volcanoes in Trinidad, the mud at L’eau Michel is semi solid and liquid enough for visitors to soak in. The mud flows out through active vents in a slow circular fashion over an area of approximately an acre. The mud here is not hot despite what the term ‘volcano’ might suggest. On the contrary, the mud is cool and smooth to the touch and so dense it keeps you a float.
Visitors frequent the volcano to picnic and enjoy the mud bath. This is usually followed by a short 30-minute hike to the southern coast to L’eau Michel Beach for a refreshing sea bath.
While the surrounding scenery is beautiful and comprised on cane fields and teak forests, there are no facilities at either the volcano or the beach, and the mostly clay soil is sticky and difficult to drive through. This hidden gem is fairly remote and is not well known to most, so an experienced guide with an off-road vehicle is your best bet for visiting this destination.
