The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is a twin island country located in the southern portion of the West Indies in the Caribbean. Although cut from the same cloth, Trinidad and Tobago are completely different travel destinations that cater to different kinds of travelers. On Trinidad, you can find the largest carnival and a population of ecstatic people. On Tobago, you can be at one with nature as a huge portion of the island remains untouched.

Accommodations

These two islands are made to accommodate tourists so you can expect hotels and resorts for all budget ranges. Since you are already on the island, you might as well maximize your experience by staying the best that both Trinidad and Tobago has to offer.

The island of Tobago already keeps you in touch with nature because of its natural wonders. If you want to take it up a notch, we suggest staying at The Villa at Stonehaven in Tobago. This luxury hotel is atop a hillside only a few minutes away from the sea. You can rent one of fourteen 3,700 sq. ft. villas that each comes with its own private infinity pool, air-conditioned rooms, and spacious verandahs. To cap it all off, the villas provide you a great view of the ocean and the mesmerizing Caribbean sunset.

If you are planning on staying in the lively Trinidad, there are a few 5-star hotels you can choose from. Located near the port area is the Hyatt in Trinidad. As expected from a hotel coming from one of the top brands in the industry, the rooms in the Hyatt are generous and luxurious. Aside from world-class amenities, expect top-notch service from the brand’s well-trained staff.

Another great find from a world-class brand is Courtyard by Marriott in the Port of Spain. The outside of this hotel is simple and elegant. Of course, expect world-class amenities and service once you are inside. One of the defining features of this hotel it has its own movie theater that’s free for guests. It is also  strategically located near a shopping complex filled with great restaurants and shops.

Restaurants

The twin islands are home to many great restaurants and a healthy selection of cuisines. If you want authentic Caribbean dishes, we recommend the Makara Restaurant at Tobago. This seaside restaurant offers a modern take on Caribbean cuisine while giving you breathtaking views of Buccoo Reef. Best of all, the seafood is always guaranteed fresh as it is caught nearby.

If you prefer healthy European dishes, we recommend visiting the BUZO Osteria Italiana at the Port of Spain in Trinidad. Aside from a selection of exquisite Italian dishes, the restaurant also offers vegan-friendly options if this is what you prefer. There are many other restaurants to visit in both islands but we find these two the most exciting.

Beaches

If you’re in the Caribbean, chances are you’re looking to spend a day at the beach. You’re in luck as both islands aren’t short of these. Some of the most popular beaches in Trinidad are Maracas Bay Beach, Blanchisseuse Beach, and Mayaro Beach. If you really want the best beach experience, we recommend focusing on Tobago. Its best beaches are Pigeon Point, Store Bay, Englishman’s Bay, and Canoe Bay. Some of these beaches are far apart so we highly recommend renting a car.
